John Cam and his family, pioneers from the 1850s, owned land on the south side of Oxley Road, eventually 6 weatherboard houses by 1886, across Camden Road. The first tenant of No. 36 was John H. Grainger, architect, and Rose, his wife and young son Percy Aldridge in 1887. They may have lived in a house in Victoria Road in 1886. Percy (1882-1961) musician, composer, pianist is best remembered for his interest in folk music and the popular 'Country Gardens' and 'Molly on the Shore'. The family was in that house perhaps five years.
