White Horse Inn Hotel, c.1960. |
Comments: Managed by John Connell from 1853, on the eastern corner of Barton St and Burwood Road, this was an establishment frequented as much for the prize-fighting as for the beer. Listed as the Hawthorn Hotel from c1861. Later became the White Horse Inn in 1938, and was closed in 2005, citing increases in Land Tax as the reason. It was demolished in the same year with offices built on its site.
