Back to Hawthorn Historic Plaques
David Hill, storekeeper according to the 1856 electoral roll, apparently had a general store on the corner of his street. The Hills were apparently pioneer settlers on this side of the river. David Hill was on the Boroondara District Road Board, and the Municipal Committee, and first Hawthorn Council until 1867. He lived later in Denham Street, and behind the Town Hall, and the store apparently became a butcher's shop run by Delia Crampin before 1870. The terrace pair behind was built on her property in 1886. The shop was demolished.
