Comments: Designed by M. W. Woolf, this hotel cost 7000 pounts to build, containing 43 rooms including thirty bedrooms. It was opened by the Lord Mayor of Hawthorn on the 30th of July, 1888. It was located strategically by the railway gates of Camberwell railway station, which was built in 1882.

In 1889, the Minister for Customs, J. B. Patterson, presided at the inaugural meeting of the Camberwell Bowling and Tennis Club.
