Hill Street

Back to Hawthorn Historic Plaques

One of the oldest houses built in one of the first side streets, for commuters to town - by the only form of public transport - a horse coach or horse car from one of the local hotels or from the end of Bridge Road. It was built by local builder James Richardson, one of the few buildings remaining known to have been built by him, and one of the last of the row of a dozen cottages which faced Hill Street in the early 1860s.
