Thomas Power, auctioneer, was involved with running stock in Hawthorn in the 1840s, buying Crown allotment 17 in 1846. Some of Hawthorn's first commercial ventures commenced on his property. He was a Member of the Legislative Council 1856-1864, and on the Hawthorn Municipal Committee. He died in 1873, his property acquired by Thomas Evans, who subdivided the allotment north of Yarra Grove, later Thomas Hughes, who further subdivided the property with Glan Avon Road in the mid 1920s. The house has been altered and extended.
