Back to Hawthorn Historic Plaques
In the 1856 electoral roll, there was a Riversdale Cottage in this area, apparently giving the name to the road. A house called "Riversdale" was later the home of Thomas Kenny, a stationer, whose firm Sands and Kenny produced the Melbourne Directories. He died in 1866 and the house became the property of John and Elizabeth Wood of the Yorkshire brewery family, then Arthur Johnson and later the Ducketts before the First World War.
