Back to Camberwell plaques 
When Victoria celebrated its centenary in 1934, it was proposed that a tower be built in Beckett Park to commemorate this occasion. Initially, a tower costing 3000 pounds was proposed, but the Advance Balwyn League proposed a more practical option costing 800 pounds. Building commenced in April 1937, once the funds were raised, and the tower was officially opened in August 1937 by R. B Barnes, the Mayor of Camberwell.
