About this resource

 

Information on historic plaques and memorials have been gathered in a number of resources, both print and online. The purpose of this online resource is to gather all of this available information, and make it available through a single website.

 

The following sources were used to locate plaques:

 

City of Hawthorn Guide to Historic Plaques: Hawthorn's 125th Anniversary, Victoria's 150th Anniversary. A guide to plaques placed in 40 historic places in the City of Hawthorn in 1985, as identified by the Hawthorn Historical Society. Historical notes written by Gwen McWilliam.

 

Plaques and other treasures: A walk along Camberwell Road. A self-guided walking tour of historical sites along Camberwell Road around Camberwell Junction, published by the Camberwell Historical Society c2002.

 

Take a walk around the Maling Road & Canterbury Road plaques. A pamphlet identifying the locations of 14 plaques placed around the Canterbury Shopping Centre by the Canterbury History Group, with a map showing the period of construction. Printed in January 2005 by the Canterbury History Group.

 

RHSV Memorials Database. Searchable online database of information submitted to the Royal Historical Society of Victoria between 1985 and 1995 as part of the Victorian Memorials Project.

 

Monument Australia. An online database of information regarding monuments located around Australia.
