Comments: News articles as early as June 1870 indicate the presence of a hotel, owned by Michael Hynes, in Prospect Hill - a business district located around the corner of Charles Street and High Street.

There is a listing in the Cole-Tetlow index of a "Galway" hotel, licensed in 1871-72 by Michael Hines, with a further entry in 1873-74 of "Galway Temperance".

In the South Bourke Standard, 28th Feb 1873, the following was printed:

APPLICATION FOR A COLONIAL WINE LICENCE

To the Licensing Magistrates at Kew.

I, Michael Hynes, of Bulleen Road, Kew, do hereby give notice that I desire to obtain and will at the next licensing meeting apply for a Colonial Wine License for a house situated at Bulleen Road, Kew, known as the Galway Hotel, containing six rooms exclusive of those required for the use of the family.

Licensees:

1870-c.1874 - Michael Hynes
